Jay,
This may be a bit lengthy. I told you I planned to work my way through your decade list.
Thus far, I’ve viewed ‘The Battery’, ‘Room and ‘Warrior’ and, although not on your list, your review of ‘The Perfection’ interested me so I viewed that as well.
While it was probably the least best of the ones I watched, ‘The Battery’ resonated with me the most. Please explain what it meant to you. I don’t remember hearing a review of it (I was a loyal HMP listener and listen to your weekly ones with Billchete).
I’m not fully sure why it touched me. Perhaps I need to view it again but it’s a “real-life” zombie film. To steal one of your explanations, its a “drama first, then comedy and then horror.” It would have been a strong film even without the zombies! The final, lengthy, scene in the car reminded me of the lengthy bathroom scene in ‘The Boat’ (have you discussed that?) and the tent scene in the criminally underrated ‘Willow Creek.’
I have a great more to say about the movie but will end this now. Thanks for what you’re doing and I prefer “unedited” Jay. My favorite episode of any of your podcasts was an HMP solo-cast/Frankensteinian episode where you reviewed Larry Fessenden’s ‘Beneath’. I love that movie, even if the fish looked stupid.
You are on a roll, Jay! Keep the momentum going!
Also, if you have time and interest, I’d love to hear your thoughts on The Platform on Netflix. One of the more exciting and thought-provoking films I’ve seen this year. Definitely some “horror elements” in there as well.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Hi, Jay,
I just wanted to say I’m really enjoying these un-edited stream-of-consciousness get-through-this-list podcast. Like listening to my favorite all-night DJ talking late into the night.
Regarding the Ned Kelly gang, people like me (of a certain age) and other film nerds of the 70s might know about this outlaw because Mick Jagger starred in a Tony Richardson version in 1970 which was shown at all the rep houses along with Performance. When such a double bill would have guaranteed a full house (and a smoky if anxious atmosphere) at your local indie theatre.

What a poster! Cheers, and keep up the good work! Roger
